Malaysia Day that celebrated every September 16, drew smiles on the faces of eight mothers today as they successfully gave birth to their respective child at the Penang Hospital to coincide with the historic day for the country.
The first baby which came out from the labour room belongs to 39-year-old housewife S. Komala, who gave birth to her second child in the family. The 3.3-kilogram (kg) baby girl was born at 3.07am at Penang Hospital today.
Another mother, 34-year-old Siti Saerah Abdullah, said that her 3.4kg was overdue by three days.
Her doctor said that she will give birth on Sept 13 but she was worried because after a few days had passed, the baby still did not come out, until yesterday evening where she was rushed to the hospital after her amniotic fluid started to leak.
She eventually gave birth to her second boy at 5.28am earlier today.
“I was surprised and worried initially, it was as if he was waiting to come out on this very day. As a mother, it is definitely a proud moment to have my boy born on Malaysia Day,” she said as quoted from nst.com.my.

For the first 20 Malaysia Day babies, Co-operative Bank Persatuan Bayan Baru branch will gift them RM50 each credited to their Al-Wadiah Hasanah account at their banks.
Its branch manager Muhamad Afif Zulkifli said that the gift is to inculcate the habit of savings from day one.
“First time we are doing this as a symbolic gesture to help them to start to save from the first day since they were babies.”
“It will be initially registered under the guardian’s name, in this case, the parents, and once they already have their MyKid identification card, then the account will be named under the baby,” he said.
Malaysia Day held every year to commemorate the establishment of the Malaysian federation on the same date in 1963. It marked the joining together of Malaya, North Borneo, Sarawak and Singapore to form Malaysia.
