Thunderous roars were heard in many homes, restaurants and bars showing the live broadcast of the football match between Vietnam and Malaysia last night.

It was the first leg of the AFF Suzuki Cup finals, held in Kuala Lumpur.

Vietnam tied 2-2 against Malaysia, securing 2 goals within the first half of the play. The first goal was an ‘accidental’ own goal by Shahrul Saad, whose shot was inadvertently turned in as he tried to clear the ball away from goal. The other was a long-range strike from Pham Duc Huy.

The Harimau Malaya team cracked Vietnam’s lead, when they scored their first goal in the 36th minute through Shahrul Saad. They caught up with the Golden Dragons with another goal by Safawi Rashid in the 2nd half.

On another note, Vietnam fans were upset when they had to stand on the jam-packed stairs, as the away section was insufficient to accommodate the thousands who came to support their team.

The Malaysian authorities acted swiftly, allowing some of the Vietnam fans to move to the other sections of the stadium to avoid the congestion.

Both nations were one-time champions of the AFF Cup; Vietnam in 2008, and Malaysia in 2010.

The second leg of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2018 will be held at the MyDinh Stadium in Hanoi, Vietnam, this coming Saturday, Dec 15.
