If only there’s a faucet or switch for emotions, going through life would be so much easier.
The thing about emotions is that it keeps you human, but at the same time it’s as unpredictable as fate. But we are not always ready to control a surge of unwanted emotions from showing. It can be said that emotions are the main enemy of leading professional life (that includes you, housewives and househusbands who are in charge of the children and household management!)
Perhaps these five tricks can help you get through the day with the saddest, angriest and exhausting feeling.
1. Take a shower
Believe it or not, but having water (be it cold or hot) rushing down your skin can wash off some feelings that weigh you down. Laying down on your bed and smelling bad with greasy hair will not only pile up the dirt, but also the overwhelming emotions. So, take a shower and groom yourself–brush the teeth, comb the hair, shave, put on skincare or sheet mask. Whatever you need to do to get clean.
2. Exercise
When you’re “not in the mood” you’ll also not have the energy to do any simple tasks, let alone working out. But don’t think about it, just do it! Many people who exercise regularly or when they feel stressed admit that pushing themselves to work out eventually makes them feel much relieved and refreshed afterwards. Besides, working out will easily take your mind off your feelings because you focus on “finishing the miles” or “syncing with the rhythm.”
3. Make a list
An unwanted surge of emotions (which you don’t understand where it originates from or simply could not control) times unfinished tasks, results in chaos. These tasks bother us and we feel more depressed as we don’t feel like doing it. A simple trick is to list down all your tasks and prioritize. Read more about the trick here.
4. Pick your entertainment
Everyone’s mood can be lifted in different ways. If you’re an auditory, play some uplifting music. Do you like to read? Pick up something motivational. Not a reader? Lift your mind off with some easy TV series, something funny or perhaps a little romance.
5. Get occupied
Get out of the house and do something. If you stay in one place, feeling all the emotions, you may find it hard to get out of the hole and “continue life”. It’ll only bring you down. Unless you actually have the time and the circumstances allow you, don’t do it.
Even better, if you have someone to talk with (a best friend, your parents, a co-worker), ask them to hang out. You can talk about your feelings if you’re comfortable to reveal yourself that is. But you can just talk about other things that keeps your mind off of the emotions. For some people, especially extroverts, social interaction brings up the mood. Besides, who knows if your company is feeling the same way? You’re not alone, you know, even if you think you are.
